New features with COROS EvoLab
With the software-update, COROS EvoLab, a number of new features have become available. We already know a lot of the features from Garmins GPS-watches (among others) while a couple of the features are completely new. Nevertheless, this update just means that COROS have become an even bigger competitor in the market for GPS-watches.
The new features cover:
- Total fitness status
- Indication of training load
- Indication of fatigue
- Recommended training load (for future 7 days)
- Updated recovery recommendation
- Current running performance and marathon-level
- Running calculator
Below I will go through every single update, so you can learn more about how the new and updated features can help you in your training.
Get an easy summary of your ”Fitness Status”
Thanks to the EvoLab update, COROS have made it easier to get a thorough summary of your fitness. The actual design of the ”profile-page” in the app has been updated, so you´ll find a better presentation of the new and updated features - and quickly can get a summary of your current fitness.
On the front page everything you need to know is shown before your next training session. See the picture below for the illustration.

Indication of training load: Are you improving your fitness?
Every workout provides a training load which is based on your heart rate. I.e. the severity of your workout. This load is divided into two types: Load Impact and Base Impact, which is exactly what COROS EvoLab is now able to measure.
COROS EvoLab measures your Load Impact, which is the short-term training load (measured on the basis of the average training load of the last 7 days). And also your Base Impact, which is the long-term training load referring to your fitness (measured on the basis of the average training load of the last six weeks)
These meaasuremnts of training load are visualized in the COROS app’ where you can follow if you are training too light or too hard according to if your fitness curve (Base Impact) is going up or down.

Indication of fatigue: Are you training too hard or too light?
As athletes we respond differently to training loads. The difference between your Load Impact and your Base Impact is your fatigue. I.e. are you constantly running around with a physical surplus and not pushing yourself or are you worn down with the risk of getting injured, or do you have a sensible mix in your training sessions and have a mixture of being fresh/tired?
COROS EvoLab provides an indication of this. By grading it on a scale between 1-100 COROS indicates your fatigue, where 100 is critical and 0 completely fresh.
Besides producing a number for your fatigue, COROS EvoLab will equally divide your status into five different zones which you can use for planning the severity of your next training session. This means:
- Optimized zone - that you train properly
- Performance zone - that you are ready for your big raceday

Recommended training load: How much/how hard you should work out?
COROS EvoLab provides a recommendation for a total 7-day training load based on your actual fitness and training history. If you are training within the recommended load, you have a better chance of improving your fitness and at the same time feel recovered and ready for your workout. Which means that you will be certain not to train too much nor too little.

Updated recommendation for recovery: For how long do you need to rest?
Relax and recover - it sounds so simple, but still it can be very hard. Fortunately COROS EvoLab can help you now. With the update you get a recommended recovery time directly on your watch - so, how many hours COROS recommend you to rest before the next hard training session.
At the same time you get a warning of the training intensity which your body is able to handle. The red, yellow and green zone indicate if its best to relax completely and recover, complete a light activity or if you are ready for a hard training session.

Current running performance and marathon-level: How ready are you to challenge yourself?
COROS EvoLab introduces the feature ”running performance”, which shows a score between 80-120% according to how your training effects your overall performance. Your ”running performance” compares the current running session with the overall and expected fitness. If you keep seeing a score of 100% or above there is a good chance that your fitness curve is rising (which means you are getting in better shape).

In addition, there is a completely new feature which is superb for the one who is planning to train for a marathon. The new feature called ”marathon level” measures your current ability to complete a marathon on a scale from 0-100. This feature can also be used as an indication of your overall fitness.

Running calculator: Fow fast can you complete a given distance?
And as the last - and for many an exciting feature, COROS EvoLab introduces an estimated running calculator. I.e. on the basis of your training history, COROS will estimate how fast (in minutes and average pace) you should be able to run 5km., 10km., a half marathon or a marathon approximately.

Thanks to the COROS EvoLab-software update, COROS GPS-watches now offer a number of cool, valuable and interesting features which any athlete can benefit from.
