More choices, more running – Nike's new way to think about running shoes

Nike has updated their entire road running catalog – it's not just about new colors or names. It's about making it easy for you to choose the right shoe for the right day.

When you run, your needs change; Pace. Terrain. Fatigue. Thus, one shoe is rarely enough.

With three clear categories and a clear focus on shoe rotation, you now have the chance to match your training with exactly what your feet need.

Three categories – Three running experiences

The new structure is divided into three easily recognizable categories – each with its special focus:

Pegasus – Responsive cushioning

Nike Pegasus is the shoe most runners can use, as it focuses on a balance between lightness and cushioning. The shoe is responsive cushioning to keep your energy throughout the run. Additionally, the shoe encourages running with speed and dynamism.

    Vomero – Maximum cushioning

Vomero series is for the best comfort – ideal for long, easy runs or days when you want some extra bounce. The shoes have a wide foam platform, sacrificing a light feel for tremendous comfort.

      Structure – Supportive cushioning

Structures character can be found in the series name: Structure. The firmer midsole is designed for stability, which many runners enjoy. Give your ankles a well-deserved break after demanding intervals or long runs.

Icon, Plus, and Premium – Shades of cushioning

Each category in Nike's new setup can be nuanced by what they call silhouettes. Each category has an icon model, representing the core of the category's experience:

Pegasus 41 (responsive), Vomero 18 (maximum), and Structure 26 (stable). All shoes are based on Nike's classic series, with many years of development and experience behind them.

Additionally, there are “Plus” models and “Premium” versions in each silo, which Nike also calls the categories. “Plus” and “Premium” add technologies to the base categories and offer higher comfort in each silo.

Plus models are an upgraded version, where the basic feel is the same, but the shoes use ZoomX foam, making them more responsive and even lighter.

Premium models are the top models in each silo, where Nike's engineers go all in on performance, design, and details; the shoes contain the latest technology and are, in many ways, a glimpse into the future of Nike's shoe development.

Currently, all the shoes have been launched in the Pegasus silo: Pegasus 41, Pegasus Plus and Pegasus Premium .

In the Vomero silo, only Vomero 18 and Vomero Plus have been launched. Vomero Plus is a personal favorite and I have written a comprehensive review of it. The anticipated Vomero Premium launches in October this year.

The Structure category is currently only available in its icon silhouette, Structure 26, which has just been launched but is already a staple in my shoe rotation.

Nike has made it simpler to assemble your shoe rotation. By rotating between several shoes, you distribute the running load and reduce the risk of injury. Additionally, each shoe is designed for different purposes, adding variety to your many runs.

With three clear silos, and the silhouettes' nuances of them, you now have the chance to match your training with the exact gear your feet need.

Define your needs, find the shoes that fit you, happy training.
