ADIDAS Solar Glide 5 - An upper with space
First, let’s talk about how well the adidas Solar Glide 5 fits on our feet. I can without question say that in this first category, the Solar Glide 5 sticks the landing.
The Solar Glide 5 has a Primeblue knit upper, which is a bit stiffer and has more hold than the deformable knit upper in the adidas Ultraboost 22. The shoe has a noticeably wide forefoot, a fairly thick and tall tongue, and a two-part heel counter that reduces the pressure on the Achilles area.

Emil:
The adidas Solar Glide 5 has a wider forefoot, and it suits me well. I like comfort and find the adidas Solar Glide 5 to be very comfortable. There is room where there should be room, and it is tight and secure in the places where it needs to be.
Malte:
I agree with Emil in that the forefoot is wider, and just like with him I think it is a really good thing. I enjoy how the adidas Solar Glide 5 upper is shaped and love having it on my foot.
Tine:
I like how the Solar Glide 5 fits around my heel and midfoot but it is rather wide in the forefoot, and that doesn’t necessarily fit my foot that well. It’s not bothering me in any shape or form, and I think a lot of people would love a shoe that has some extra room around the toes.
Lars:
There is no question that the shoe is comfortable on the foot. I also enjoy having some space for the toes, but I do think that people who like a shoe to be snugger in the toe box might find it a bit wide.
Even with thin socks, the heel is very secure and I have not experienced any slippage. So personally the fit of the adidas Solar Glide 5 just works for me.
The upper of the adidas Solar Glide 5 is surprisingly airy despite having some added structure and a thicker tongue compared to the adidas Ultraboost 22. It isn’t as deformable, but that makes the adidas Solar Glide 5 a more versatile shoe that will work for more types of runs in my opinion.

There is a consensus from everybody here at RunningXpert.com that it really is a delight to have the adidas Solar Glide 5 on. Tine is the only one who isn’t loving the wider forefoot, which is natural since she has a narrower foot.
The adidas Solar Glide 5 really shines and is certainly a star in the fit-department. Especially for those who like a tiny bit more space around the toes.
A shoe that shifts your focus
adidas has updated the Solar Glide 5 with the L.E.P 2.0 system, a plastic plate that gives the right stiffness and still ensures a flexible midsole. The midsole is divided into two parts, with a control platform on top and bubble-boost in the bottom.
The outsole has Continental rubber, which just speaks for itself. It is solid, durable, and sticky.
Emil:
I think the adidas Solar Glide 5 is nice to run in, because it feels soft without feeling too mushy. It gets me where I want to go in a comfortable way. It is just the type of shoe you would want for those nice and easy runs.
Malte:
The adidas Solar Glide 5 feels uncomplicated and with no distractions. It could very well be my preferred shoe for slow and long runs, and I can easily see myself doing some intervals in it as well. But then again I have the Takumi Sen 8 and it just makes intervals more fun. So, I might just stick with the lighter and faster shoe for those types of runs.
Tine:
Despite it not fitting perfectly to my foot it sure is a delight to run in. The mix between a comfortable shoe that isn’t too soft makes it a very good all-round shoe that can be used for both long runs and an occasional tempo run as well.
Lars:
I agree with Malte here, uncomplicated is a nice word to describe this shoe and the feel I get from running in it. The midsole gives a soft landing, but not an ultrasoft feel or a revolutionary bouncy experience.
It feels cheesy to say, but it just works! The ride might not excite the nerdiest “I love bounce” runner, but it is still a shoe that everybody at this nerdy office has had a very positive impression of, after running in it.

Another slam dunk from the adidas Solar Glide 5, a shoe that might not be as exciting as a lighter shoe to run in, is best for everyday training and long runs, but can handle faster paces as well. It isn’t our preferred speed shoe, but rather a shoe that does its job and makes you think of how nice it is outside.
ADIDAS Solar Glide 5 guides your step
The adidas Solar Glide 5 is a neutral shoe, but it has some nice stability features. The midsole is a bit wider, giving a nice platform to land on. The upper is firm and supportive, the L.E.P 2.0 torsion system provides support from the midsole, and the structured heel counter gives stability around the ankle, making it an ideal shoe for people who want a bit more stability on their run without going for a stability shoe.
Emil:
The wide midsole gives me a big area to land on and gives a natural feeling of stability and security. It does not affect my way of running in any way, the Solar Glide 5 feels nice and makes me think less about what shoe I have on, and more about where I run.
Malte:
As Emil stated earlier, the platform is wider, and it gives a tiny bit of extra stability to my run. Because of the support I really don’t focus on how I run, when I run in the adidas Solar Glide 5.

Tine:
It is a neutral shoe, but the wider platform and the firmer heel give it a tiny bit of extra stability. So I think it could be used for people who normally use a stability shoe in their training. The stability doesn’t really affect me when I run, so it feels stable but not controlling in any way.
Lars:
As a former stability shoe runner, I can really appreciate how this shoe is constructed. It is in no way a solid rock that forces you to do things, but just a blend of good features that complement each other in such a way that you never think about them.
The adidas Solar Glide 5 is not a stability shoe. The stability features it has will make it a great shoe for people who usually run with stability shoes but wants to try a shoe that doesn’t control your gait too much.
