It’s stable. It’s plush. It’s supportive. It’s Hoka One One Gaviota 4.
The Hoka One One Gaviota 4 is the absolute maximum of a stability shoe from Hoka. It provides maximum comfort, and it ensures a very soft and smooth ride on the road just like the Hoka Bondi 7. But the J Frame in Gaviota 4 makes it a stability running shoe, while the Bondi 7 has a neutral flatform.
Compared to the Gaviota 3 the Gaviota 4 has got a reworked upper which is designed to give you a more supportive and better-fitting shoe. The tongue has been reworked and is now plusher which gives you maximum comfort and a better fitting.

The midsole is still delivering the same maximal cushioning. The shoe has a drop of 4 mm, with a stack height of 31 mm in the heel and 27 mm in the forefoot. So there is a lot of foam ensuring maximum cushioning and comfort under the foot.
And then there is the outsole – here you have a Hoka Trademark, the “J-frame”. A frame which is designed to give you more stability with an extended heel support and support all the way on the inner side of your foot.

I’ve been testing this shoe for a couple of weeks now and it is a very comfortable and supportive shoe. I have primarily used the shoe for jogging. This is where it shines the most for me. It is very plush and just make you enjoy the easy rides - It is not a fast shoe – for those rides I would recommend a Rocket X or Carbon X – And if you want a more responsive shoe but don’t want to compromise on the stability, I would recommend the Hoka Arahi 6. The Arahi 6 also comes with the J-frame but is more responsive than the Gaviota.
But for my easy runs, long runs in a slow pace and general jogging, Gaviota 4 is my kind of shoe!
