If you are looking for a light and versatile running shoe with extra stability, Hoka One One Arahi 5 would be a really good choice. .
I just tested the fifth version of Arahi, and I´ll give my review below. But I can already mention now that it is full of great updates from its predecessor, Arahi 4.
Hoka-comfort in stable packaging
Hokas Arahi-model is among the lightest stability shoes in the market and is particularly suitable as a high-mileage training shoe for the light - to moderate pronation runner who needs extra support and stability for short and longer runs.
With this shoe you are guaranteed the familiar and comfortable HOKA-sensation with great cushioning, roll and plenty of padding - only in a more stable packaging.
Innovation J-Frame stability feature
Hoka One One Arahi 5 primarily owes its stability to HOKAs innovative J-Frame technology which supports your foot by guiding it through its natural gait without use of stiff and unflexible materials. J-Frame is a tougher and more solid EVA-foam placed around the arch and all the way around the heel in a J-shape as seen below in the pink area.

This material creates a platform which provides increased stability and support when your foot rolls through its stance phase. The J-Frame is a newer and more modern way of making stability shoes for the overpronating runner compared to the more classic way which has often included a more solid midsole in the arch side of the foot and lighter and softer foam on the outside to maximise cushioning and minimize the degree of overpronation. This new way of making stability shoes are also seen in shoes like Nike React Infinity and Puma Eternity among others. In addition to the J-Frame, the wide sole also ensures a more stable landing which also serves to counteract pronation.

Hoka One One Arahi 5 vs. Arahi 4
Compared to the previous version seen here, Arahi has been updated on a number of different parametres.
Updated upper
The fifth version of Arahi this time introduces an updated upper in a stronger and lighter mesh providing the upper with increased durability and breathability for your feet. In addition Arahi 5 has added Hokas rather well-known ”Alfe-heel”, which consists of an optimized heel cap which relieves the pressure on the Achilles tendon and provides increased protection and support. I think the update works very well as it provides the shoe with a more comfortable fit in the heel area.
I have a tendency to develop blisters on the heel, but with the Arahi 5 I actually avoided this as the new heel is padded and provides support further up. In addition to the increased support, the new heel also contributes to making the shoe easier to get on and off. And for the same reason the pull-tab on the back of the shoe from the previous model has been removed.

Improved fit
Also the midfoot section of the shoe wraps itself better around the foot compared to last years version, which had a slightly loose fit. This is mainly due to the stable heel cap which is more solid, keeps the heel in place and ensures that it doesn´t slide to the side. At the same the tongue in this model has been sewn to provide a better grip when you lace the shoe. This is definitely a big plus for runners who are looking for a tighter fit which contributes to a more safe sensation.

Increased outsole durability
The most important improvement from Arahis fourth to fifth version has been made on the outsole which now features a powerful rubber compound in the areas most exposed to wear and tear. Its a feature which I thought was lacking in Arahi 4 as its outsole was simply worn too quickly. But thanks to its new design and durability, the new version will serve you for an extended lifetime.

Stability in a feather-light version
When I put on Hokas Arahi 5 the first time, I was instantly surprised by its minimal weight. Weighing only 230 gram, in size 40, Arahi is among the lightest stability shoes in the market. Stability shoes are usually massive in terms of size and weight, but HOKA has succeeded in changing this in the latest version.
The classic stability features have been taken out and instead HOKA have focused on making a light midsole which supports and keeps your foot in place throughout your run.
Actually Arahi 5 is a rather voluminous shoe but you don´t really feel it during your run.
I have a much lighter sensation than in other stability shoes which provides a different and faster running experience.
Arahi therefore feels incredibly dynamic, balanced and smooth especially thanks to the Meta-Rocker design which helps to promote the gait as it is placed early in the midsole to assist you in your forward motion.
Hoka Clifton in a stable version
Compared to other running shoes in HOKAs range, Hoka One One Arahi 5 is clearly most similar to the popular Clifton-model – only in a stable version. It is super versatile and may be used for both short and long runs. Please be aware that Arahi is slightly small in size where Clifton is more the opposite. I went up half a size which I would also recommend to others.
The fit can seem a bit tight at first but the shoe quickly adjusts and it will feel more comfortable after a couple of runs. In addition your calves should also get used to this model if you usually run in a more classic stability shoe with a 10 mm drop. Arahi has a 5 mm drop which means that your calves need time to adapt to the increased work load.

The best version of Arahi so far
Once you are wearing Arahi 5, you don´t want to take them off. This is how I felt the first time I tested them. This shoe is incredibly comfortable and among the best stability shoes I have tested. Not least thanks to the light and fast running experience.
On top of that, I also like its sleek look which combines HOKA’s typical chunky look with an elegant and more smooth finish than the other "clumsy" models in their range.
Therefore I can only recommend HOKA’s Arahi 5, if you love Hoka, and at the same time want a running shoe with more structure and stability for both short and longer distances. I think Hoka One One Arahi is the best version so far. Not least thanks to its new upper but also due to its lightness and innovative stability feature which just offers a great run every time.
