Test: Nike Invincible 3 is all it promised to be.

Nike Invincible 3 tempts with a futuristic design and known technologies such as ZoomX and Flyknit.

Nike Invincible 3 fits well into the running shoe category with the most development in recent years - besides the race category. We are, of course, talking about max-cushioned running shoes. When you see ZoomX on the midsole, you automatically want to zoom in on the shoe. Often, this leads to something very good. So that's exactly what we're going to do now, zoom in on Invincible 3, and hopefully make you a bit wiser about what makes this shoe so invincible.

Nike Invincible 3 has this futuristic and very boxy look. Personally, I love it, which means it's also a shoe I think is cool to slip on for a neighborhood walk. But that's not today's focus, so let's zoom back into the running aspect.

ZoomX foam was originally intended for Nike's race-day models, but now these premium foam types are seen more and more on daily training shoes across all brands. It has been a game changer for us runners, extending runs and, in some cases, runners' running-life. So, with that intro, let's take a closer look at the midsole.

Before we dig deeper, here are a few quick stats about Nike Invincible 3:

Stack height: 40mm in the heel, 31mm in the forefoot.

Nike Invincible 3 - ZoomX

No expense spared here. A full 40mm of ZoomX in the heel and 31mm in the forefoot. This can make any max-cushioned enthusiast drool. My runs in Invincible 3 have been on my easy days, where the shoe shines. 40mm ZoomX, and a 9mm heel drop is ideal for easy runs to rejuvenate my legs after faster days. ZoomX is known for top-tier energy return, as seen in both Nike Vaporfly and Alphafly , which have set world records across distances, but in Nike Invincible 3, I find it a more bouncy and gentle foam material, suitable for long Sunday runs.

Nike Invincible 3 - Boxy design, intentional?

Earlier, I mentioned the shoe's boxy look, which some might call clunky. But it's not without reason - earlier Invincible models were slightly unstable due to the soft foam, and Nike has addressed this by making the shoe's platform relatively wide, and it works. I find Nike Invincible 3 to be a stable running shoe, so runners who usually look for stability shoes (pronation) can also use Invincible 3.

Nike Invincible 3 is a shoe that makes you want to run an extra mile, thus wearing it down quickly. To tackle this, rubber is placed along the entire outsole, extending shoe life, but naturally increasing weight.

Nike Invincible 3 - Is the upper nice, but good?

The upper is made of Nike's Flyknit material, which in this shoe version, along with the wide platform, offers stability. I might miss a bit more comfort in parts of the upper, but it does the job, and once the miles started rolling, it wasn't something I noticed much. However, the upper is a bit stiff, so if there was anything to point out, it would be here.

Nike Invincible 3 - Is the shoe invincible?

I have a weakness for max-cushioned running shoes, so Nike Invincible 3 has been a welcome new member of my shoe rotation. High midsoles don't always mean high comfort, but they do in Invincible 3. It's incredibly comfortable - but more bouncy than energy-filled. It's a shoe that aids you, but not one pushing you forward relentlessly.

What you can expect from Nike Invincible 3 is a running shoe with a very comfortable and stable expression, with a midsole that makes running pleasant. It's not a lightweight daily trainer that shifts you into a flow state, but a stable companion you can always rely on.
