Battery Life

One of the biggest updates in Fenix 7 is improved battery life. All Fenix 7 models have received solid upgrades. Especially in GPS mode, most runners will notice a big difference. A standard Fenix 7 holds battery 72% better in GPS mode than a Fenix 6.

Sapphire Solar

A new feature exciting many Fenix fans is the availability of both solar panels and sapphire glass. All solar panels are now larger, covering the entire screen, harvesting over 300% more solar energy than Fenix 6 Solar.

Design Update

Fenix 7 has several design improvements. It retains its rugged style and reliable performance, but with enhancements making it more durable and practical. For example, it now features a button guard around the start/stop button.

The screen is updated with a touchscreen, making it easier to use built-in topo maps. As previously mentioned, more solar panels are behind the screen. An invisible design improvement that makes a big difference in use.

Fenix 7 and Fenix 7X are also thinner than previous editions. 7 is 0.5 mm thinner and 7X is 2.1 mm thinner.

Multi-continent Maps and Direct Download

With Garmin Fenix 7, if you buy the Sapphire Solar edition, you get a preloaded topo map with optimized details over Europe. All editions can download new maps directly to the watch via Wi-Fi, including golf and ski view maps with cross-country trails.

UP-AHEAD

Before a run or race, if you load your route, Garmin Fenix 7 with the new Up-Ahead feature tells you what to expect. It can show when to turn next, the next water station, or the steepness of the next hill.

Race Pace Predictor Trend

On many Garmin models, you get an estimate of your 5k, 10k, half-marathon, and marathon speed. On Garmin Fenix 7, you now see a trend line of your current estimate and how it looked before, helping you evaluate your training.

Stamina

Most who have run or cycled have hit the wall. With the new “Stamina” feature, Garmin gives you a better overview of your energy levels across systems, helping prevent burnout. The Fenix 7 considers your creatine, anaerobic, and aerobic energy consumption, providing a total energy overview. You see how much energy is left and how long you can maintain speed.

New Optical Heart Rate Monitor

The built-in wrist heart rate monitor in Fenix is upgraded. The heart rate monitor is more accurate than before. You still get PulseOx for blood oxygen measurement, and it works underwater. The monitor height is 1.3 mm.

Tracklog Filters

After your run, easily get an overview with new Tracklog filters. The watch shows your route in colors indicating performance. You choose what to read: pace, heart rate , altitude, cadence, etc.

Walk Detection

Fenix 7 can detect how much you've walked during a trail run. Even top trail runners walk on long, steep hills. Walk detection provides an overview of walking during your trail run or other activities.

Multi-Band GPS (only on Sapphire Solar)

This might get technical, but with Multi-Band GPS enabled, you get better GPS precision than before.

Usually, you can enable GPS on the watch. You can also enable Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS, and QZSS. The more you enable, the more precise your measurements.

Traditionally, GPS had two lines: L1 for private use (GPS watches, car GPS, etc.) and L2 for US military.

In 2009, GPS launched L5, more precise. Combining L1 and L5 signals gives a more precise signal, as your watch constantly chooses the best line. Galileo and BeiDou have lines similar to L5, creating a more precise and reliable system than before.

New Setup via App

Besides external design upgrades, Garmin also upgraded Fenix 7's internal design. It's easier to set up this Garmin watch initially, and now you can change screen settings and activity profiles in Garmin Connect app, not just on the watch, for easier customization.

Flashlight

In the Fenix 7X, there is now an integrated flashlight built into the watch case. It can always be activated with a double tap on the light button, ensuring you can see ahead in the dark. It can be used as a flashlight in daily situations but also while running. You can light up with regular white light, change it to red, or create a strobe effect. If an emergency arises and you need to signal SOS, the watch can even send the signal in Morse code, showing the outside world that you need help.

Other updates

Furthermore, Fenix 7 supports wind- and kitesurfing and has a new training feature for strength training, including AMRAP (As many rounds as possible), EMOM (Every minute on the minute), TABATA, and a custom function.
