More choices, more running – Nike's new take on running shoes

Nike has updated their entire road running catalog – it's not just about new colors or names. It's about making it easy for you to pick the right shoe for the right day.

When you run, your needs change; pace, terrain, fatigue. That's why one shoe is rarely enough.

With three clear categories and a strong focus on shoe rotation, you now have the opportunity to match your training with exactly what your feet need.

Three categories – Three running experiences

The new structure is divided into three easily recognizable categories – each with its specific focus:

Pegasus – Responsive cushioning

Nike Pegasus is the shoe most runners can use, as it focuses on a balance between lightness and cushioning. The shoe is responsive cushioning to keep your energy throughout the run. Additionally, it encourages running with speed and dynamics.

    Vomero – Maximum cushioning

Vomero series is for the best comfort – ideal for long, easy runs or days you want extra bounce. The shoes have a wide foam platform, sacrificing lightness for immense comfort.

      Structure – Supportive cushioning

Structures features can be found in the name: Structure. The firmer midsole is designed for stability, which many runners appreciate. Give your ankles a break after intense intervals or long runs.

Icon, Plus, and Premium – Shades of cushioning

Each category in Nike's new setup is nuanced by what they call silhouettes. Each category has an icon model representing the core experience:

Pegasus 41 (responsive), Vomero 18 (maximal), and Structure 26 (stable). All shoes are based on Nike's classic series, with many years of development and experience.

Additionally, “Plus” models and “Premium” versions in each silo, as Nike also calls the categories. “Plus” and “Premium” add technologies to the core categories, offering, for example, higher comfort in each silo.

Plus models are an upgraded version where the core feeling remains the same, but the shoes use ZoomX foam to make them more responsive and lighter.

Premium models are the top models within each silo, where Nike's engineers go all in on performance, design, and details; the shoes feature the latest technology and, in many ways, offer a glimpse into the future of Nike's shoe development.

Currently, all shoes have been launched in the Pegasus silo: Pegasus 41, Pegasus Plus and Pegasus Premium .

In the Vomero silo, only Vomero 18 and Vomero Plus have been launched. I'm quite fond of Vomero Plus and have written a comprehensive review of it. The anticipated Vomero Premium will be released in October this year.

The Structure category is currently only available in its icon silhouette, Structure 26, which has just been launched and is already a staple in my shoe rotation.

Nike has made it simpler to build your shoe rotation. By rotating between shoes, you distribute running load, lowering injury risk. Moreover, each shoe is designed for different purposes, adding variety to your runs.

With three clear silos, and the silhouettes' nuances, you now have the means to match your training with exactly the gear your feet need.

Define your needs, find the shoes that suit you, happy training.
