TEST: Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 - An Instant Classic

Imagine your dream shoe just got even better!

It's no secret that Endorphin Speed 1 and 2 have been my favorite running shoes in recent years. Both shoes are so versatile, fast, and perfect for both quick and easy days. So when they changed the entire midsole on the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3, I got a bit nervous about whether they'd removed the magic from the shoe. But in short; they absolutely did not. It's fantastic!

Make no mistake. There are major changes, but most of them, I think, are really good additions to the shoe, making it even more versatile - both as a training shoe and a fast shoe.

The difference between the last two versions and Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 is mainly that Saucony wanted to create a bigger difference between Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 and Saucony Endorphin Pro 3, and the leap is bigger than before. Now, Saucony Endorphin 3 is even lighter and more specialized for competitions, and Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 is more like a training shoe.

However, it's noteworthy that Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 made this transformation without becoming heavier - in fact, our weighing says it's a few grams lighter.

It's a must for all runners who want to have fun on the road to try Saucony Endorphin Speed 3.

Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 – More of the Good Stuff!

Let's dive right into all the good stuff! The midsole has been changed with a softer version of PWRRUN PB foam. The base is slightly wider and the sole is higher, and there's a new flexible S-shaped plastic plate. On the side of the shoe, you can see the wings from the plate sticking out to ensure you get enough stability with the new flexible midsole.
The little criticism Endorphin Speed 1 and 2 received was mainly because it lacked stability. But with the new wider base – especially around the heel – and the new wings on the plate, you get more stability with the new Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 , making it a better option for many who need some stability.

When you add a bit more stability and a little more softness, you get a shoe that's even more forgiving on long runs, and you can use it as a light tempo shoe or training shoe. But the stability is very subtle – it's still a neutral running shoe!

The midsole feels noticeably softer in the heels, and overall, it's a tad bouncier than before. Visually, you can clearly see the difference between Endorphin Speed 2 and 3, especially when you look at how much foam is in the heel.
It's become even better for easy recovery runs due to its soft feel, but it's when you pick up the pace that it gets really fun. At higher speeds, it feels light and efficient, and the SPEEDROLL technology in the midsole works just as it should, rolling me into the next stride.

It's a must for all runners who want to have fun on the road to try Saucony Endorphin Speed 3. Big words, I know, but Saucony are the ones defining how a lightweight training/tempo shoe should be.

Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 – Typical Saucony

The upper is slightly more traditional compared to the dual-layer mesh on Saucony Endorphin Speed 2. But the upper is still made in a thin and breathable mesh, light enough for such a fast shoe. There's plenty of room for a wider midfoot than mine, and the shoe can also be laced to fit a more average foot. There have been no challenges in getting the shoe to fit as it should, and it just fits securely from the first time you put it on!

Saucony just knows what they're doing with these light shoes. You can always remove elements to make a shoe lighter, but I think Saucony has found a good compromise when it comes to focusing on both weight and comfort.

The tongue is semi-attached and fairly thin, staying in place when you run but not making the shoe less breathable. Speaking of breathability; I haven't had any issues in the warm Danish summer. I can actually feel the wind quite a bit on my toes when I run in Endorphin Speed 3.

The fit is nearly perfect for my foot. I especially love how my forefoot has enough space without feeling bulky. While some competitors are starting to make transparent uppers that are more rigid and static, Saucony sticks with creating classic and more adjustable fits, which I prefer.

Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 – Shoe of the Year?

I think this shoe does everything it promises - and more! I would recommend it to almost every runner. Especially if you want a light and fast shoe that can do it all.

I love Saucony shoes , but Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 stands on its own pedestal for me, and it will take some incredibly cool shoes to not crown it the best running shoe of the year!
