offers GPS watches with high value for money and plenty of features without breaking your budget. They have created a strong lineup – from essential running watches to models for serious athletes and adventurers. 2S, for example, has the market's best battery life, and when Coros rolls out new updates, it's often the entire lineup that benefits – rather than just an excuse to buy a new expensive model.
What's new this time? Quite a bit.
While there are also additions for cycling, I'll focus here on the biggest updates to the app and watches in general.
Coros smartphone app – New look and features
The app has received a visual upgrade, making everything more streamlined, faster, and easier to navigate. Don't worry, it still feels like the same Coros app we know and love, just more organized and simpler to navigate.
But the biggest change, in my opinion, is the introduction of official workouts and training plans. If you lack motivation or need help finding today's workout, Coros has you covered with over 200 programs and workouts.
And it's not just Coros themselves, but also their athletes! Ever wondered how it feels to be Kilian Jornet? Now you can try his favorite hill sessions – or maybe you'd prefer to tackle Alex Yee's triathlon run. It's a fun way to find motivation and feel closer to your favorite athletes. It's all made incredibly easy via the app and syncs directly to your watch or training calendar – flawlessly.
The library covers not just running, cycling, and swimming – there's also strength training aimed at runners, cyclists, swimmers, and even climbers. And most impressively: video guides for all exercises are available directly on the watch. It's all at your fingertips, making it easy to follow any workout – either from your phone or directly from your wrist.
Need help with your Coros watch? The app now features a new virtual assistant that can assist you instantly.
Voice alerts on the go
A classic challenge with GPS watches is constantly looking at your wrist instead of just running, enjoying the surroundings, or listening to music or podcasts. It's not a big issue, but with the new voice alerts via phone, you can avoid it.
Honestly, I didn't think it was a feature I needed – but during my interval sessions, where I push myself on every lap, it really helps keep the focus on training and not on technique.
You have three options: connect headphones to the watch, the phone – or just let the phone's speaker deliver the messages. It works really well, and even if I'm listening to podcasts in another app, I still receive the info I need on the go.
While all watches have access to the new workouts and training plans in the app, the strength training updates and voice alerts are available on the following models:
Pace 3, Pace Pro, Apex 2, Apex 2 Pro, Vertix 2, and Vertix 2S.
Coros keeps updating
This stream of updates just keeps coming from Coros, and that's why I think it's worth mentioning some of the biggest from recent years – just to give a picture of what Coros is up to.
In 2024, they launched Extender, which connects phone and watch even closer and gives you an extra screen during your activities. It's brilliant if you, for example, cycle, need a larger map view, or want a separate screen during indoor training.
In 2023, they introduced Explore, which is the most robust route planner I've used in an app. It's super easy to find new places and routes – both where you live and when you travel, and it takes just seconds from starting to having a route ready on your watch.
And it doesn't stop there! In 2024 also came:
- for running shoes and bikes
- Strava Live Segments for segment hunters
- Virtual pacer, that keeps you on pace for running and racing
- Live-tracking with friends on the route
- Safety Alerts, showing your position and contacting your emergency contact with one tap if injured
And this isn't even everything. Coros keeps updating – and Coros users keep loving it.
