6 essential running belts for fluids, phone, and keys

Fluids are essential for longer runs or in the heat. We present 6 selected running belts you'll find hard to be without once tried.

Are you one of those who still ties the house key to your shoelaces or stuffs it in your socks? Or holds the phone in your hand while running? Then you should consider a running belt. We present 6 selected running belts you'll find hard to be without once tried.

One of the great things about running is its simplicity. Just lace up and go. Except when running long or in hot weather. Then you need fluids and maybe some energy products. And, of course, you need your phone just in case... And house keys, obviously. That's quite a lot... And your smart running clothes probably don't have enough pockets for it all. Plus, items bounce (annoyingly) if in a pocket while running.

The smart solution to this “problem” is a running belt or hydration belt ! Here, you can easily, comfortably, and securely store all your important belongings during your run. And you can place them where they are most stable, around the hips.

Which belt should I choose?

There are many different belts optimized for various purposes. Here are some tips on what to consider when finding the hydration belt that best meets your needs.

- Generally, choose a belt that is adjustable and/or made of stretchable material to ensure the belt and your belongings stay snug against your body.

- If you have both a key and smartphone, your belt should have at least two compartments to avoid the key scratching the screen.

- If your energy gels need to be easily accessible, opt for a belt with special loops for gels, so you don't have to fiddle with zippers or pockets for quick energy.

Running backpack or running belt?

Many runners, especially trail runners, use backpacks for carrying fluids during runs. Backpacks allow for much more fluid and gear than a belt. But why endure a warm, snug backpack if you only need half a liter of fluid or just secure storage for your phone and keys?

Therefore, many runners will greatly enjoy a good running belt. It's more comfortable, quicker to put on, and for most runs, the storage space in the belt will be sufficient.

Salomon Active Belt

With the Salomon Active Belt, you have two storage options. A slanted 600 ml water bottle is easy to access - both when taking it out and when putting it back in the belt. Next to the water bottle, you'll find a zippered pocket. The pocket is large enough to store multiple gels, for example.

For the belt to fit snugly, it's easy to adjust the circumference.
