Which running shoes are best? Here's a list of the shoes we believe deserve a spot on the best of 2026 list.

Major brands release shoes often. We update this list when new running shoes earn a spot. Check back often to stay updated on which shoes are among the very best.

Which running shoe is the best?

It's a frequent question when people seek new running shoes . Unfortunately, it's hard to answer because the choice is personal. What's best for me might not be for you. That's why making a list of the year's best is challenging. Still, we try and present the shoes that we at RunningXpert.com believe deserve a spot on the list of "Best Running Shoes".

The list is divided into four categories:

Best neutral daily trainers

Best pronation daily trainers

Best lightweight/competition shoes

Best trail shoes

Best neutral daily trainers

Find the year's best in the "neutral trainers" category - shoes without extra stability or inner foot support. Most runners find their shoes here.

NIKE VOMERO PLUS

Nike Vomero Plus came out in August 2025 and quickly became a favorite among many runners. The shoe doesn't have a "fancy" rocker or gimmick. It's just well-made – good fit, reasonable weight, and importantly, excellent foam.
With ZoomX in the Vomero Plus, you get a soft feel at slower paces, but still effective when speeding up.

That's why Nike Vomero Plus is the shoe we've reached for most this year, as it works for many different runs.
If you need a versatile and comfy daily trainer, it's hard to overlook Nike Vomero Plus.

You get a shoe that can handle long, slow runs but also keeps up when you pick up the pace. It's perfect for daily use, maybe with foam slightly less responsive than Nike Vomero Plus, but lasts longer.
New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080 v15 is for those who value comfort, versatility, and durability.

        ASICS GEL-NIMBUS 28

With Asics Gel Nimbus 28 , ASICS has made a comfy, stable trainer optimizing daily runs with world-class comfort. GEL-Nimbus 28 is lighter than its predecessor, partly due to outsole reduction where less protection is needed.

FF BLAST+ ECO foam remains underfoot, providing grip on wet roads, comfort for long runs, and better performance if you decide to increase speed.
ASICS GEL-Nimbus 28 is for those prioritizing stability and comfort daily.

          HOKA CLIFTON 10

Hoka One One Clifton 10 is a lightweight cushioned trainer. The biggest change from the previous model is the drop increased by 4mm, from 4mm to 8mm – a major change for Hoka's perhaps most popular trainer. Additionally, the EVA foam is softer and spongier than before. The shoes are heavier than before but deliver more of Hoka's renowned cushioning.

            NEW BALANCE FUELCELL REBEL V5

New Balance FuelCellRebel V5 is a super versatile training partner that can help you both on intervals and easy runs. An updated FuelCell midsole offers enhanced absorption, as the sole has not only become wider but also higher. The wider sole in FuelCell Rebel V5 ensures that you don't have to worry about the shoe becoming too unstable. This year's relatively large sole is made with a mixture of super-foam PEBA and EVA foam. You get speed wrapped in an incredibly light blend, making the shoe dangerously aggressive.

              ASICS NOVABLAST 5

Asics Novablast 5 went straight to our list of favorite running shoes when we received it here at the office. With the new FF Blast Max foam in the midsole, the shoe found its way back to our hearts, reminding us why we've been so excited about this shoe for several seasons. Asics Novablast 5 is a light, bouncy trainer that leans more towards the comfort universe than outright speed.

                MIZUNO NEO ZEN 2

Mizuno Neo Zen hit the market last year with an insanely soft and bouncy midsole. It was a fantastic shoe, but some thought it lacked a bit of finesse to be truly outstanding. This has been addressed in the new Mizuno Neo Zen 2.

Here, Mizuno has replaced the midsole with a supercritical EVA midsole, which still provides a soft and springy feel but is a bit more stable and reliable when ankles get tired on long runs.

With Mizuno Neo Zen 2, you get a light and comfortable shoe, perfect for asphalt with cruise control engaged. It handles different speeds really well and has a very comfy knitted upper that hugs the foot, offering a pleasant running experience.
If you want a modern, fun, and springy running experience, choose Mizuno Neo Zen 2.

Best pronation running shoes for daily training

Here you'll find this year's best running shoes with pronation support - that is, running shoes that are stable and support the foot on the inside, so it doesn't "fall too much inward".

                  NIKE STRUCTURE 26

Nike Structure is a classic among stability shoes, and the latest version retains what it's always done best: support, comfort, and durability. This update features a new full-length ReactX midsole, providing softer and more energy-filled cushioning than before. The upper has been updated with flexible and breathable engineered mesh, offering a secure and comfy fit around the foot.

Stability comes from Nike's Midfoot Support System, guiding the foot and ensuring smooth takeoff without the shoe feeling heavy or stiff. Structure 26 is, in short, a stable shoe focused on comfort and support. Use it for daily training and long road runs.

                  Weight: 302 g (size 42) / 254 g (size 39)

                    NIKE STRUCTURE PLUS

With the new Nike Structure , Nike has introduced ZoomX in their top stability shoe. It's the first time Nike's best foam comes to runners who want extra support, providing a softer and lighter feel underfoot and a shoe that prioritizes comfort greatly.

Structure Plus thus offers a whole new experience for stability runners seeking something special underfoot.
If you want a shoe that supports you on long runs, cares for your feet, and offers a comfortable experience from first to last step, then Nike Structure Plus is the right choice.

                    Weight: 252 g (size 42) / 300 g (size 39)

                      SAUCONY GUIDE 19

The new Saucony Guide 18 builds heavily on the predecessor's DNA – just with a bit more of everything. Guide 19 retains the good rocker that pushes you forward but has updated both the PWRRUN midsole to a more comfortable foam and the outsole to be more durable.

The slight weight increase is thus entirely acceptable when you gain both more comfort and better durability for everyday runs.
Saucony Guide 19 stands out a bit from the other stability shoes on this list by having a large rocker – in the best possible way. It's delightfully uncomplicated, effective, has good arch support, and a wide platform that keeps you stable day after day.

If you need a stability shoe that doesn't make a big fuss but just works, then you should choose Saucony Guide 19.

Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 was originally designed as a competition shoe, but its versatility extends far beyond that. It's suitable for a wide range of training sessions, whether it's long, moderate runs or sprints to the finish line. Its characteristic construction combines nylon plate, SPEEDROLL technology, and PWRRUN PB foam, providing Endorphin Speed 5 with an ideal balance of stability, cushioning, and responsiveness. This year, Speed 5's nylon plate is updated with a new S-shape to enhance its energy return. With this unique combination, Endorphin Speed 5 is always a reliable and fast companion, no matter how many miles you run.
