Space Rocket or Sports Car?
. The name exudes technology and could very well be the name of a space rocket or a fast sports car with racing stripes. Behind the techy name hides one of ASICS' most reliable stability shoes. A trusty training partner that has guided runners safely through countless miles for over a decade.
has just launched in its 14th edition, and this time ASICS has made more than just minor tweaks. Both midsole, fit, and upper have received thorough updates, and overall, the shoe appears as a significant evolution. The question is how these changes affect comfort, stability, and the running experience itself.
In other words: What does GT-2000 14 have to offer?
From PLUS to MAX
GT-2000 14, as mentioned, has undergone several significant changes compared to its predecessor. The biggest update lies in the midsole, where FF BLAST PLUS is replaced by FF BLAST MAX. FF BLAST MAX is a softer and more energy-returning foam, also used in and Glideride Max. The fit is also fine-tuned in GT-2000 14. The upper is made of a new, lightweight mesh, and the forefoot has gained a bit more space.
A noticeable detail is that the weight has increased slightly compared to version 13. It's only a few grams but notable in an era where most models become lighter and lighter. The stack height is unchanged, so the difference primarily comes from the heavier foam type.
Stability with a Twist
From the first encounter, GT-2000 14 feels pleasant and comfortable. The upper hugs the foot without squeezing, and the extra space in the forefoot is a clear improvement for me. The insole is soft and comfortable. As characteristic of ASICS, the fit is well-executed, and comfort is spot-on.
On slow, long runs, it's the soft heel and stable feel that stand out. Stability is created by the wide platform along with ASICS 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM. The support along the inside of the foot is noticeable without being intrusive and guides the foot securely through each step.
When the pace increases, and I land further forward, I notice the forefoot's new construction clearly. The forefoot is relatively stiff, but along with the pronounced rounding in the sole's front, it provides an efficient and forward-driving roll. ASICS has added a trampoline-like pad under the forefoot, also found in , but here on a more stable foundation. The result is a lively and responsive feel, making GT-2000 14 more fun and energetic than many other stability shoes.
Is GT-2000 for You?
GT-2000 14 is for those who want a stable training partner that delivers support and comfort mile after mile. With its clear support, it's ideal for runners seeking control and stability, but with the new midsole, you also get a more lively and responsive feel than before. For me, GT-2000 14 is a stability shoe that dares to stand out a bit. It combines the familiar security with a fresher, more energetic takeoff, and even though the weight has increased slightly, it feels anything but heavy to run in.
may not be exactly a sports car, but it can do something similar: take you quickly, comfortably, and safely from A to B with a smile on your face. GT-2000 14 is likely a GT-2000 that will divide opinions - but I like it!
