Brooks Adrenaline 21 GTS provides sublime support
I have only been running in these shoes for about 40 kilometres, but I already have a great impression of this pair of shoes. The shoes provide the right amount of support at exactly the right times – and I have simply had some great running experiences with this pair of shoes.
The greatest thing about the Adrenaline 21 GTS is the discrete stability it offers. Actually, I almost don’t notice it – no matter if I am merely stepping into the shoes or running. I just know it is there whenever I need it!
Brooks unique GuideRail-technology in the midsole for optimal support
Right on top of the midsole along the sides of the shoe is Brooks’ brand-new technology, the GuideRails. These GuideRails help to keep your knees safe and stable, so you avoid the unnecessary twists and turns of your feet, knees, and hips.
Basically, the GuideRails are designed like built-in protrusions along the inside and outside of the shoes, which will help guide the foot towards the middle to prevent you from landing on the outside or inside of your foot. It simply works like magic.
If I feel fatigued in my legs and I am not necessarily paying much attention to my landing, it has been a great safety net to wear these shoes as they provide so much security.
And even with fresh legs and a more neutral landing, the Adrenaline 21 GTS simply delivers a light an effortless run with a soft landing and a rolling-action of the foot from landing to toe-off.
Soft and comfortable midsole in Adrenaline 21 GTS
Besides the GuideRails, the midsole also comprises the soft DNA-Loft foam material on the outside and the firmer BioMoGo foam on the inside, which provide for a soft and comfortable running experience. Without feeling too lively or unstable.
The exact same goes for the midsole of the Brooks Ghost 13, which is the neutral counterpart to the Adrenaline. The Adrenaline 21 GTS distinguishes itself by having these supporting GuideRails.
I would actually go as far as to say that even though I have only been running in this pair of shoes for about 40 kilometres, these shoes do not in any way feel like other classic stability running shoes. They are not too heavy, stiff, nor do they have a hard pronation wedge under the arch of the foot.
Even though I know it IS a stability running shoe, I am inclined to say that the running experience I have had with these shoes make me think of a neutral everyday trainer.
Adrenaline 21 GTS updates compared to predecessors
If you have had experience with earlier editions of the Adrenaline, you will notice how Brooks has done away with any superfluous graphics, logos, etc on the upper of version 21. Instead, it has all been replaced by a new Engineered Air mesh upper, which makes the upper lighter, more breathable, and provides a stable hold around the foot.
Brooks Adrenaline 21 GTS provides protection at every mile
Overall, I think the Brooks Adrenaline 21 GTS is a really stable, durable, and comfortable choice as an everyday trainer. It provides an incredible feeling of protection for every kilometre.
Personally, it is a shoe I could easily imagine myself use for my many calm runs or long-distance runs with small bursts of accelerations, but it is not capable of lifting the burden alone. I still need a bit more momentum and responsiveness when I go for the tempo runs, or when I do interval training.
But this only further underlines how the Adrenaline 21 GTS is a pure workhorse, which will help the individual runner like you and me feel good and secure – from the beginning right till the end of our run! It is not designed to compete with the fastest shoes on the market. It only needs to do what it is best at; support, stability, and safety all in a comfortable wrapping!
