In the early years of Hoka's life, was synonymous with the brand's philosophy. Hoka aimed to revolutionize the market with large chunky midsoles and rocker geometries. It worked, and now, few runners haven't encountered the brand . Initially, Bondi was synonymous with the brand. Few shoe models avoid tweaks, and Bondi is no exception. Hoka has done so here, never compromising on Bondi's core idea: to be Hoka's most cushioned shoe.
While we enjoyed the holiday and maybe gained a little, Bondi did the opposite. It's shed weight. But instead of dwelling on it, let's give Bondi a friendly pat on the back for the weight loss, especially since it hasn't hurt comfort. Quite the opposite.

Hoka Bondi 9 - Current State?
Good thing no one's checking my post-holiday form, but I've done so with Bondi 9, it is just a shoe after all. Bondi 8's midsole was big, very big, Bondi 9's is just big, makes sense? Hoka trimmed unnecessary mm of foam, not much underneath, more on the shoe's side, so you no longer feel like you have spaceships underfoot. Maybe you do, just without all the extras. It works well, I haven't felt so light in a Bondi for a while. Most obvious change: Bondi is slimmed.
Hoka Bondi 9 - Supercritical EVA?
Bondi 9 received a major midsole update. The entire midsole is now Supercritical-EVA, lighter and more responsive than pure EVA. Stack height increased, slightly, but it wasn't necessary. Now 43mm heel and 38mm forefoot (men), not noticeable beside the 8, as it's slimmed on the sides. Foam isn't super soft like Fuelcell, a bit more responsive. It pairs well with Hoka's meta-rocker, now one of Hoka's strongest features. Hoka excels at this rocker geometry, as does Saucony, in my opinion. Leaves Bondi 9 with a smoother look, moving away from its recovery shoe image. Stability is popular, but Hoka's been doing this for years: creating a broad base. Bondi 9 fits in well, boosting comfort, still vital for Bondi.
Hoka Bondi 9 - Upper
The upper is engineered mesh, well-calibrated in thickness, suitable for both summer and winter. It's built for mileage, noticeable around the ankle where extra padding enhances comfort. An overall balanced upper, designed for comfort over long distances.
Hoka Bondi 9 - Conclusion
Hoka Bondi 9 might sneak into every runner's rotation. It's got a more versatile look, from being a recovery shoe to a great walking shoe? Back to being for runners seeking comfort, which Bondi 9 delivers. It's still for your easy runs, recovery days, daily runs, where you want comfort. Bondi 9 continues the spirit, as the name suggests, dreaming of Bondi Beach, Australia, with sun, beach, wellness, and comfort. Sounds nice, maybe I should book tickets.
