Test: Merrell MTL Skyfire 2 - Light and lightning-fast trail shoe

Good grip, ultralight and stretchy upper - read Max's test of the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2 here.

Merrell MTL Skyfire 2 – for the fast and technical routes

It's always exciting when a new superlight shoe is released. A lightweight shoe not only makes your running more economical, but especially on trails, I find that very light provides a fun and agile feeling in the terrain.

The upper on the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2

The upper part is minimalistic and thin but, at the same time, surprisingly firm. An upper that is too thin can cause stability challenges on technical trail routes. The upper on the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2 fits very well, and I haven't experienced slipping in the shoe - nor having to tighten the shoe afterwards.

The midsole on the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2

The midsole is firm! Don't expect a spongy and soft landing when you're running in the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2. You get a firm and stable midsole that performs well on technical trails, soft forest floor and also verticals.

Outsole on the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2

The outsole fits perfectly with the other capabilities of the shoe. With 5mm lugs and Vibram outsole I've experienced an excellent grip in both mud and wet surfaces.

The final verdict on the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2

Do you like a shoe that is firm and stable then I can recommend the Merrell MTL Skyfire 2. The shoe excells in all types of terrain that requires stability and grip.

The landing is hard but in return the shoes gives you the feeling of super light feet and 100% confidence that the shoes will sit how they are supposed to whilst gripping well in the terrain.
