REVIEW: Mizuno Wave Horizon 5 - Maximum comfort, kilometre after kilometre!

Mizunos absolute most comfortable pronation running shoe has received an update. Check out my review here.

Do you need a running shoe that can run many kilometres? And do you need a running shoe that gives you the proper support and stability combined with comfortable cushioning?

Then listen very carefully. I tested the obvious choice for you, the Mizuno Wave Horizon 5. A running shoe that typically reminds me of the ASICS Gel-Kayano and Saucony Hurricane.

But why should you consider Horizon 5? You can find it out in my video review below.

Mizuno Wave Horizon 5 - feel like floating kilometre after kilometre

The Wave Horizon 5 gives a floating sensation while a stable and secure fit simultaneously supports your run. The Wave Horizon 5 has a unique midsole, in which comfort and return energy gets taken to the next level.

Wave Horizon 5 - max comfortable and supportive midsole

The midsole consists of Mizunos own ultra soft Energy foam, cushioning U4icX foam, and responsive XPOP-foam, where I felt this floating and bouncy sensation, from landing to push-off.

On the inside of the midsole, I noticed the foam is more compressed than the rest of the midsole. Solely a positive experience. Therefore, the inside is more firm and thereby slowed down my foot's movement, so I don’t do the roll inward when landing.

I think it works right after the book. I especially appreciated that you couldn’t directly feel the support when you step into the shoe – like a hard edge on the inside. The foams' compression provides a natural feel in the shoe, both before and during running.

A rock-solid and durable outsole on the Wave Horizon 5

As I led with, the Wave Horizon 5 can handle a lot of kilometres. Not only is the build of the midsole rock-solid, but Mizuno’s X10 Carbon-rubber in the outsole secures excellent performance and durability. I do not doubt that any wear and tear are visible on the outsole after 600 km.

Super comfortable and flexible upper

If you tried the Wave Horizon's previous versions, you would experience an utterly new AirMesh-upper with the Wave Horizon 5. As implied by the name, you get incredible breathability and flexibility. Moreover, you get a removable Premium Insock innersole that makes the shoe incredibly comfortable from the first moment you put it on.

Mizuno’s pronation running shoe - which one is for you?

Overall, the Wave Horizon 5 is for you that wants max comfort, kilometre after kilometre. Purely weight-wise, the shoe is, therefore, in the heavier end of the spectrum because Mizuno doesn’t compromise on comfort.

If you want a pronation running shoe where weight is lower and the shoe is more versatile for both slow and faster runs, then I recommend the Mizuno Wave Inspire 17, which I reviewed recently.

But if you seek a stable, volume running shoe, where cushioning and comfort are the most important criteria, I recommend the Mizuno Wave Horizon 5. I have nothing wrong to say about the shoe. It lives up to expectations - and more!
