The Puma Velocity Nitro 2 is an exciting running shoe if you want a lightweight and responsive shoe that can be used for both daily training and tempo running.

If lightweight, soft, comfortable and responsive are at the top of your wish list for running shoe qualities, then you should seriously consider taking a glance over at the Puma Velocity Nitro 2. You may not think so, but Puma is seriously beginning to leave their mark on the running shoes market. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (held in 2021, but you probably know that) an American woman named Molly Seidel reached the podium.

It was completely sensational. No one thought she would be competing for a spot at the podium. And perhaps it was made even more sensational the fact that she had a pair of Puma shoes on her feet. Given that it has been quite a few years since Puma has been able to compete with the very best. But now they are able to compete. And it is not only regarding the fastest racing shoes that they have taken up the fight. They have also made sure to make themselves relevant when we look at more ordinary running shoes.

Puma Velocity Nitro 2 – Enjoy the nitro

This was a slightly long intro for presenting the main character of this review, namely the Puma Velocity Nitro 2. The Velocity Nitro 2 is Puma's answer to a lightweight high mileage training shoe that can also be used for tempo running. The shoe weighs 264 grams (in men's size 42) and it has Puma's luxurious Nitro foam in the midsole.

This means you get an easy and effortless running experience with lots of shock absorption, but with a foam that is able to bounce back every now and again and be responsive, which is useful if you want to speed up a bit on your runs. And you can easily speed up, because the low overall weight allows you to move your feet relatively quickly.

Puma Velocity Nitro 2 – Gloriously good grip

On the outsole of the Velocity Nitro 2, you get Puma's unsurpassed Puma Grip, which gives you a fantastic grip. I been testing the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 for a long time and I have run in them on frozen roads with ice and snow, as well as on wet asphalt. I have only been pleasantly surprised at how good the grip actually is.

The upper of the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 is made of a lightweight and comfortable mesh material that is padded and provides really good comfort. The foot lies comfortably in the shoe and stays in place, just as it should. In addition, the shoe also has built-in breathabilty.

If you want a running shoe that can be used both as a lightweight high mileage training shoe, or as a tempo shoe, if you still want some cushioning and comfort, then you should definitely consider acquiring the Puma Velocity Nitro 2. Puma is back for good and now able to to compete amongst the biggest shoe brands - the Velocity Nitro 2 is yet another example of this.
