The king of mud has been updated and is better than ever, but has been careful not to ruin the proud tradition by changing what doesn’t need change.
Video
has been a familiar sight on the trail scene since 2006, a true king of mud and everywhere else you want great grip! Through 6 generations, has stayed true to its roots, despite having 6 different designers, and there’s a reason: Don’t change what just works!
It still has the fantastic Contagrip® outsole, with rubber that just sticks to everything. The Sensifit™ construction, an updated upper with new materials, and Quicklace™ system result in the same comfort and great fit that the Speedcross family is known for. And the EnergyCell™+ midsole delivers, as always, a responsive and fast run.
So, there’s a lot that hasn’t changed, but when a change is made, there’s definitely a reason. And that’s exactly the case with the two major changes you’ll find on the new Speedcross 6.
Salomon Speedcross 6 – Quicker and lighter!
The first thing you notice when comparing Salomon Speedcross 5 & Salomon Speedcross 6, is the weight difference. This is mainly due to the lower stack height (height of the midsole) on Speedcross 6, with 3 mm less foam, compared to Speedcross 5.
This makes Speedcross 6 a lighter shoe, but perhaps more importantly, a quicker and more stable shoe, handling directional changes better. And in the type of terrain that Salomon Speedcross 6 is designed for, these changes mean EVERYTHING!
Nothing beats a shoe you trust. If you can take sharp turns and descents without worrying about the shoe, you run faster. And the small change in the midsole makes me trust Speedcross 6 even more, making it so much easier to run.
Salomon Speedcross 6 - Trust the grip
Trust is the keyword here because the second major change made to Speedcross 6 is the outsole. And when we talk about the Speedcross legacy, we especially talk about really good grip everywhere. At first glance at the outsole, you might not see the big changes, and that’s because the changes themselves aren’t that big. But based on thorough research, they have a huge effect on how the shoe performs.
After extensive testing, Salomon concluded that Y-shaped lugs on the new Speedcross 6 shed more mud than any other grip they’ve tested. This means there is less mud stuck under the shoe, and you retain more grip during your run.
"Don’t worry, I’ve got you!" is what says to you every time you hit a technical part of the route, and it feels great!
