How I tested Saucony Peregrine 13
I've happily run many km in 12, and had clear expectations for what Saucony Peregrine 13 would be like.
The Peregrine model is known for being fantastic on technical terrain and mud, and thus Saucony Peregrine 13 had to be tested in its element. I've run trails between 10 and 20 km, varying terrain between muddy stretches, technical with many roots, turns, and a bit on asphalt.
First impression of Saucony Peregrine 13
It can be a bit nerve-wracking when there's an update to a shoe that works well. However, I can reassure you that the immediate feel when I put my foot in Peregrine 13 is the same as in 12 regarding form.
So far as I can tell, nothing changed regarding fit – meaning Saucony Peregrine 13 has familiar good space, still with options to tighten shoe fully to foot, crucial for technical . Comfort has been improved, due to changes in the upper.
Outsole in Saucony Peregrine 13
With 5 mm lugs, 13 can handle most - even muddy trails.
The outsole pattern changed slightly, with more space between lugs – reducing risk of things packing under shoe. Lug size varies across outsole, and it seems adjusted small details for better grip.
My experience with the outsole is very positive – I've had full confidence in the shoe, standing firm on various surfaces.
Midsole in Saucony Peregrine 13
The midsole is higher than in 12. Additionally, midsole material is now slightly softer.
The best way to describe midsole experience is “adequately comfortable.” I haven't missed comfort when shoe is in its element. Landing is still firm, but on trails it's comfortable enough, which is this shoe's strength, making great in technical terrain, needing high stability and firmness.
I can run a few km on asphalt without issue, but shoe is fun on trails. Compared to Saucony Peregrine 12, there's better comfort in the new Saucony Peregrine 13 on firm surfaces.
Upper in Saucony Peregrine 13
The upper on Saucony Peregrine 13, like on 12, is in very stretch-resistant material – allowing tight lacing, without upper giving during run. Material has fine comfort, consisting of two layers – I expect durability equal to Saucony Peregrine 12.
There's a noticeable difference from Saucony Peregrine 12 to Saucony Peregrine 13 on the upper. The new model is softer and comfier, still performing just as well on technical segments. A clear upgrade from the prior model!
