Our favourite running shoe - Max

VIDEO: Check out which three running shoes are Max's favourite right now. Max picked three shoes that he runs the most in currently.

We review a lot of shoes here at Runningxpert.com. We excel at seeing the positive in every pair of shoes. Let’s face it, all runners are different and have different preferences. Therefore, our job is to describe what is great about the shoe instead of what we don’t like.

Some shoes end up in our rotation. At times, we test shoes and feel they fit perfectly for our type of runner. Therefore, in a series of videos and articles, I have invited colleagues in the studio to ask what their favourite pair of shoes are. Today I invited Max Boderskov.

Max has an education in P.E. and knows a lot about running and working out. Furthermore, Max is a part of the national team for trail running, and before starting at Runningxpert.com, he freelanced with a focus on running for eight years. Max also runs our test lab.

Max’s three shoes

Even though Max is a trail runner with the apostrophe T, only one of the three shoes is designed for trail running. The two other are road running shoes. As Max explains in the video, few trail runners satisfy their training requirements by only trail running. Usually, you also need to run plenty of kilometres on the road.

Max's three favourite shoes are currently:

Li-Ning Feidian Challenger

Just like Emil, Max has this shoe in his rotation. Max uses the shoe for many of his pace workouts and interval training. The Li-Ning Feidian Challenger is perfect for high-intensity workouts since the shoe is so close to a race shoe that you use it for high pace workouts. Simultaneously, the Li-Ning Feidian Challenger is durable, and unlike a lot of race shoes, you can easily run many kilometres in these shoes without getting them worn out.

Li-Ning Feidian Discovery

The soft, volume running shoe from Li-Ning, is the second pair in Max’s rotation. The shoe is light – weighing only 254g (US 9) and is soft. It is a comfortable pair of volume running shoes that many with no problem can also use for pace runs. Max likes to use it for slower and steadier runs, where you don’t run fast and need to be comfortable.

Saucony Xodus Ultra

Last but not least, the trail shoe. Max is thrilled with this shoe because it is incredibly comfortable and versatile. The midsole consists of PWRRUN PB, which provides a soft and comfortable landing. The shoe is versatile and can be run in gravel, forest trails and cliffs. The shoe features a stretchable and compliant mesh that makes it even more comfortable but allows it to be great on even surfaces. In technical and muddy surfaces, the shoe doesn’t excel. But as a volume training trail shoe for Max, the Saucony Xodus Ultra is perfect.
