Examining the activity tracker

Of course the activity tracker has all the basic features which you expect in a modern activity tracker. It tells time, number of steps, has a stopwatch and you can check your schedule. In addition parents are able to set an alarm, so your child remembers a spare time activity, a bus or something else. And then you can insert your contact info IN CASE OF EMERGENCY. In that way your child can easily find mum´s or dad´s phone number if it gets lost. And that is quite clever!

In addition each activity tracker comes with a complete universe, which I will go through for you.

In order to adjust the activity tracker to your childs needs, you need to download the Garmin Jr. App – here you can set up the activity tracker, so it fits your needs personally, you can choose your avatar and you can insert cool photos on your display, etc.. The activity tracker also has activity targets. These activity targets are: 1 hour of daily activity or 7500 steps - you can adjust yourself how many steps should be the daily target.

But in addition the Garmin Jr. app also offers a number of other possibilities.

Via the app, you can insert assignements, which your child has to fulfill - e.g. it could be taking out the trash, setting the table or feeding your pet. When the task has been completed, it triggers a coin in the activity tracker. You decide how many coins an assignment is worth.

The child can then use these coins - e.g. perhaps it needs to earn X-number of coins in a week to get an allowance. Perhaps the coins can trigger a ticket to the movies or perhaps 20 minutes of computer time is worth a certain number of coins - its only you and your child who sets the limits for the the rewards.

The activity tracker also has another smart feature as the watch has different countdowns. You can set the stopwatch for 15 minutes of homework - and in this way the child can check himself how much time is left, which is a significant motivation factor. When the child starts the timer, you also get a notification on your app.

Its very clever.

Different universes

As most people are familar with, Ironman is part of the Marvel universe of super heroes and therefore you´ll find a Marvel-story attached to this watch. If you have purchased the Ariel watch, a Disney princess story is included in the app, and if you have purchased the Star Wars watch, a Star Wars universe will be included, etc..When an activity target is met every day, it will trigger a small game in this Marvel-universe. Its a small tap-game, where you need to react quickly with your fingers, in addition you can unlock different icons along the way which you can use for display photos on your activity tracker.

The story around Marvel is somewhat complex, but the universe and the game is understandable regardless of your age.

Garmin vívofit® jr. 3 also provides options for handing out different challenges - e.g. you can make step challenges for your family, where you are able to see who has done most steps during the day.

And if you meet another person with a vívofit jr. 3, you can make a toe-to-toe challenge! You just keep the activity trackers close to each other, enter the toe-to-toe challenge, and then you need to do most steps during a 2 minute spell.
