What can ruin an otherwise great run more than coming home with soaking wet shoes and socks?
Its hard to avoid, especially during fall and winter which is exactly why I want to want to present a shoe that will keep your feet dry on all runs - regardless of the weather.
Say hello to your new shoe for wet conditions: ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 G-TX.

ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 – now in a waterproof version
If you have already read my review of the ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22, then you also know that I consider it to be the current best version of the Cumulus-model.
The reason is that Cumulus 22 is an amazing high-mileage training shoe with great shock absorption and superb comfort for a large variety of runners. In addition this version comes in an even lighter and more breathable design with increased sole flexibility compared to its predecessors.
Perhaps it sounds like this shoe can´t get much better, but with the waterproof GORE-TEX version of ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 this has already been accomplished as this new version will keep your feet dry in wet conditions. What’s not to like?

What is GORE-TEX?
GORE-TEX is a synthetic, waterproof and breathable textile material used for production of both clothes and shoes.
It consists of a membrane which not only makes the product waterproof but also breathable so the body can get rid of excess heat and moisture.
The secret behind GORE-TEX is that it holds millions of microscopical pores in the membrane. The pores are too small for water to penetrate but large enough for water in vapor form to pass through.
ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 vs. ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 G-TX
At first glance ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 G-TX seems just to be a waterproof version of Cumulus 22. But in fact, this shoe has been updated on several different parametres which has made it more durable and fit for the cold and wet months of the year.
In addition to the GORE-TEX-material which is used in the upper and the tongue, Cumulus 22 G-TX has been designed with a thicker mesh upper with a reinforced heel and toe cap. The waterproof version also has a tighter fit in the upper than the regular Cumulus 22, and the fit around the heel has also been softened to create more comfort on your runs.
The outsole has been produced with a more aggressive traction pattern in a durable rubber material made to increase the grip.

ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 G-TX - how it feels
As I wrote in my review of the regular Cumulus 22 version, this shoe offers everything a neutral runner needs in a high-mileage training shoe. Great shock absorption, comfort, flexibility and bounce. And the GORE-TEX-additions to the tongue and upper has only improved it even further.
Its so cool to be able to run everywhere without having to worry about the surface.
It keeps all water out and keeps your feet dry as it is windproof with superior insulation.
As expected it is also a bit more breathable than the regular Cumulus 22 thanks to the thicker and more functional GORE-TEX upper material.
Please note that this shoe is not intended for running on snow and ice. Sure enough Cumulus 22 G-TX might keep your feet dry and warm but the outsole grip is not developed for snow and ice and your balance would be jeopardized once winter tightens its grip.
Easy to clean
The GORE-TEX in Cumulus 22 G-TX does not only help to keep your feet dry and comfortable when you are running in wet conditions. It also makes it far easier to clean when you get back from workouts in rain and mud. A 10-second cleaning - and then Cumulus 22 G-TX is all set to go again without needing time to dry. Brilliant!
Conclusion
Earlier I haven´t prioritized investing in waterproof runnning shoes which has been a big mistake!
ASICS GEL-Cumulus 22 G-TX has managed to eliminate all issues which previously have made my runs during fall and winter less pleasant Wet socks, cold feet and not many runs on other surfaces than asphalt. But now I must admit that I have become somewhat addicted to Cumulus 22 G-TX, which I basically use for all my runs at the moment.
So if you are looking for a versatile, durable and not least WATERPROOF running shoe for your wokouts during fall - and winter, I will certainly recommend Cumulus 22 G-TX as life is too short for cold and wet feet!
