In the last years, Asics has done some great bold decisions and somehow reinvented themselves. New models and foams have arrived and all of their shoes have gone through a modernization. Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 is the newest in the line and in this article I'll be comparing the Asics GEL-Nimbus 23 to the Asics GEL-Nimbus 24, to see what these big updates actually feels like.
Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 vs. Asics GEL-Nimbus 23 - A significant upper update
There are two significant updates to the Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 compared to Asics GEL-Nimbus 23. The most overlooked of those two will certainly be the upper update, which is so good that it might even be on par, or even better than the newly updated midsole.
The entire tongue has been changed out from the big soft cloud that was in the Asics GEL-Nimbus 23, to a super stretchy, breathable knit tongue that really changes not only the fit but also the feel of having this shoe on.
Asics Nimbus 24
Asics GEL-Nimbus 23 feels wonderful and plush on, but once you put the Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 on your feet, the perfection of having a Nimbus on changes drastically. It now feels breathable, light, and versatile. It really is a night and day difference.
While the Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 seems a little bit more narrow compared to the Asics GEL-Nimbus 23, my foot actually feels less confined and more relaxed in the new model. I wouldn't be surprised if all other brands started to imitate this feature in the years to come. Truly best in class!
The overall upper is also changed, it is now 50% recycled and has a more breathable feel to it. I am in love with how this upper feels, and I think many of you will be amazed when you put this shoe on for the first, second, and eleventh time!
Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 vs. Asics GEL-Nimbus 23 - A world class foam
The midsole as I mentioned earlier, is the second update, and the one that people might notice most when searching up this shoe. The Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 now has FlyteFoam Blast+ foam, in the bottom part of the shoe. It is the newest foam from Asics. A wonderful and soft foam, that is 10% lighter and has more energy return than the highly praised FlyteFoam Blast that you can find in the Novablast 2.
When I walked around the office in both shoes I was amazed at how much a difference the new foam actually makes. It is noticeably softer and lighter on foot, but not that softness that feels slow.
The Trusstic stability system is now incorporated into the midsole to increase the contact surface when you land, and it does its job well, giving you the added stability that GEL-Nimbus is known for.
And that is the key here. Even though it is a new and revolutionary update, it still feels like an Asics GEL-Nimbus, with the incorporated GEL in the midsole for that beloved ride.
Asics Nimbus 24
Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 vs. Asics GEL-Nimbus 23 - almost 10% lighter!
These two updates give a significant difference to the overall product. It is now is 290g (10.2oz), compared to 320g (11.3oz), which is very close to 10% of weight loss! That is a lot in a highly cushioned daily trainer.
Versatile isn't always a word that comes into the same sentence when you read about the Asics GEL-Nimbus models, but I dare to say that the Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 now feels more versatile than ever. It still has the world-leading comfort that you have found in all previous Asics GEL-Nimbus models, but it now also has a lightness and bounce to it, which just makes it a shoe that I would consider for more runs. Not only those where I put comfort first.
The Asics GEL-Nimbus 24 is a wonderful update that really is worth checking out!
