Rocket or Sports Car?
. The name exudes technology and could easily be the name of a rocket or a fast sports car with racing stripes. However, behind the tech name lies one of ASICS' most reliable stability shoes. A loyal training partner that for over a decade has guided runners safely through countless miles.
has just launched its 14th edition, and this time ASICS has made more than small tweaks. The midsole, fit, and upper have all received thorough updates, making the shoe a significant evolution. The question is how these changes affect comfort, stability, and the running experience.
In other words: What does GT-2000 14 offer?
From PLUS to MAX
As mentioned, GT-2000 14 has undergone several notable changes compared to its predecessor. The biggest update is the midsole, where FF BLAST PLUS is replaced by FF BLAST MAX. FF BLAST MAX is a softer, more energy-returning foam, also used in and Glideride Max. The fit is also fine-tuned in GT-2000 14. The upper is made from a new, light mesh, and the forefoot has slightly more space.
A noteworthy detail is that the weight has increased slightly compared to version 13. It's only a few grams but remarkable in a time when most models are getting lighter. Stack height is unchanged, so the difference is mainly due to the heavier foam type.
Stability with a Twist
From the first meeting, GT-2000 14 feels pleasant and comfortable. The upper wraps around the foot without squeezing, and the extra space in the forefoot is a clear improvement for me. The insole is soft and comfortable. Typical of ASICS, the fit is complete and the comfort is spot on.
On easy, long runs, it's especially the soft heel and stable feel that stand out. Stability is created by the wide platform along with ASICS 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM. The support along the inside of the foot is clear without being intrusive and guides the foot safely through each step.
When the pace picks up and I land further forward, I clearly notice the new forefoot construction. The forefoot is relatively stiff, but together with the pronounced rounding at the sole's front, it provides an effective, forward-driving roll. ASICS has added a trampoline-like pad under the forefoot, also found in , but here on a more stable base. The result is a lively and responsive feel, making GT-2000 14 more fun and energetic than many other stability shoes.
Is GT-2000 Right for You?
GT-2000 14 is for those seeking a stable training partner that delivers support and comfort mile after mile. With its distinct support, it's perfect for runners desiring control and stability. However, with the new midsole, you also get a livelier and more responsive feel than before. For me, GT-2000 14 is a stability shoe that dares to stand out a bit. It combines familiar security with a fresher, more energetic lift-off, and even though the weight has increased slightly, it feels anything but heavy to run in.
may not exactly be a sports car, but it can do something similar: take you quickly, comfortably, and safely from A to B with a smile. GT-2000 14 is probably a GT-2000 that will divide opinions - but I like it!
