WOW-effect – New Balance SuperComp Elite v3
It shouldn’t come as a surprise when New Balance comes up with yet another epic FuelCell shoe. It is a magical foam that just gives you that softness and bounce that can rival anything on the market.
Putting on the shoe instantly gives you that WOW effect, whether you just walk around in it or run at a full sprint. And in the New Balance SuperComp Elite v3, they have, In my opinion, hit the right spot when it comes to softness, responsiveness, and weight. It just makes you go “wow” every time you put it on.
Now if you only want a shoe that is soft, then the bigger borther/sister, the New Balance SuperComp Trainer is a great option. But what differentiates the New Balance SuperComp Elite v3 from its bigger sibling is the weight and the feel when running fast.
You get more speed and a flowing sensation when running in the SuperComp Elite v3. The run is effortless and fun and a reason why I have an issue choosing any other shoe to run in right now.
Good cop, bad cop - New Balance SuperComp Elite v3
It is like the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v3 has a split personality. It all depends on what pace you are running at. The softness and bounciness of the foam feel more comfortable when you are running recovery runs or at a cruise pace.
But once you turn up the speed, the beast is released. The SuperComp Elite v3 goes from nice and bouncy, to more aggressive. Making the running sensation firmer and a lot more responsive. I think it has all to do with the Energy Arc and FuelCell foam finally working together in harmony, and I like it a lot.
For me that sensation peaks on straight roads on firm asphalt. This is when running fast turns easy, effortless, and floating. Almost like flight. I don’t know if it is the fastest racing shoe in the world, and I really don’t care, because the sensation when I run is just perfect for me.
My type of upper - New Balance SuperComp Elite v3
When it comes to uppers, I am old school. I like an upper that has some hold, but that doesn’t get either too stretchy or too static. It should be an upper in-between, where you get some leeway from the upper, but not a lot of movement when you are running,
Many race shoes have a very static upper, that is extremely lightweight, but also less accommodating for different feet sizes and widths. And I usually struggle with these static uppers, until I tried the Li-ning Feidian Elite 2.0, and now the New Balance FuelCell SuperComp Elite v3. Both use the same type of upper construction.
The mixture of a static outer fabric and an elastic tongue makes it a lot easier to fit more types of feet into the same shoe. And that is why I think the upper on the New Balance SuperComp Elite v3 is so good. It feels comfortable on, there is no loose fabric that doesn’t conform to my feet and my heel is securely locked down once I tighten the laces properly.
Don’t touch it!
To summarize, I love this shoe, a lot! It isn’t the lightest marathon racer in the world, but for me, this gives me such an amazing feeling when running, that I just can’t stop smiling. Running feels effortless and energetic in the New Balance SuperComp Elite v3, and I will not let anyone near this shoe, I want all the kilometers for myself. It is mine, my own, my precious.
