Test: New Balance Kaiha - Best Midsole Value for Money

New Balance Kaiha is a running shoe ideal for your easy runs if you want a shoe with lots of cushioning.

The first thing you notice about Kaiha is its striking foam design and how much it resembles a Fresh Foam More. At first glance, the foam height may seem overwhelming, but the foam strategically extends along the sides of the shoe to wrap around the foot, providing both support and comfort. This construction ensures that your foot gets extra support and a bit of stability, making each step feel comfortable.

Kaiha has a stack height of 34 mm in the heel and 30 mm in the forefoot. The drop is thus 4mm and the shoe is what many would characterize as a maximally cushioning shoe. As mentioned earlier, the shoe's design deceives a bit, so there is some optical illusion that makes the shoe look higher than it actually is. Therefore, you don't feel like you are on high and unstable ground with New Balance Kaiha, rather you feel like there is plenty of cushioning under your foot.

The Fresh Foam X foam in Kaiha is known for its softness and comfort but requires a few runs to achieve its optimal feel. In Kaiha, it feels firmer than in New Balance More, but I still have a sense that there is a lot of cushioning; however, it is not as soft. The comfort is high, even though the shoe is not luxurious or extra padded.

New Balance Kaiha - For long and easy runs

The Kaiha shoe's outsole is covered with a durable layer of rubber, making it suitable for many miles. The gait (the rolling motion the shoe is designed with) improves the shoe's stability and guides the foot to a smooth transition, making Kaiha ideal for long, easy runs.

Kaiha's upper is made from a breathable and flexible mesh, ensuring a good fit around the foot. The shoe's wide platform provides good stability, but it is noticeable that this is where the big difference between a More and a Kaiha lies. For the upper feels clearly more luxurious in a More, and thinner in a Kaiha.

New Balance Kaiha - For both experienced and beginners

With Kaiha, you get a running shoe that combines softness and light stability. It provides a gentle running experience where joints and tendons are relieved, and the shoe's foam offers some responsiveness, making it suitable for both easy runs and a bit faster running.

For experienced runners, Kaiha is ideal as a shoe for recovery and long runs, while beginners will enjoy the shoe's comfort and versatility, making it a good choice for those seeking both support and comfort in one.
