My trail career began with Nike Wildhorse 6 and I am not saying that it will end with Nike Wildhorse 7, but I am certainly tempted to restart my career now. I loved the Nike trail shoe the last time, so this time I expected or at least hoped that I would enjoy the same sensation. This is my review of Nike Wildhorse 7.
I am an asphalt runner and I do most of my runs on that surface. I am not thrilled about hills and soft surfaces but occasionally I get out into the terrain on my easy-going runs and I always enjoy when I take the time to get out there. Therefore I also need a versatile trail shoe so that I can run on asphalt and hard-packed trail without feeling like I am running in football boots all the way out into the terrain.
That is possible with this shoe! The Nike React foam midsole provides superb cushioning and softness to be able to run on asphalt for an extended period of time which is very important for me!
Again Nike comes up with a design which is Spot-on. I like the edgy and somewhat different expression in Wildhorse 7.
Nike Wildhorse 7 is a super beginner´s trail shoe for many people. It has an 8mm drop which is neither low nor high. The weight is approx. 300 gram, which is a solid weight but this is also not a trail shoe for setting new personal records. If you want to do that, you should aim for Nike Terra Kiger instead. Instead its a trail shoe which provides comfort throughout your run. It is REALLY comfortable. And comfort is the most important thing for me on my trail runs in the woods. On those runs my focus is on nature, the experience and not on speed.
The shoe, however, features all the elementary technologies to fullfill the demands of a superb trail shoe.
There is extra protection for your toes to avoid stones and dirt from penetrating but also to avoid schocks from potential bumps on your way.
An extra layer of fabric has been placed around the entrance and the ankle for extra support and to prevent dirt from getting into the shoe.
Strategically placed multi-directional lugs will provide the best take-off at every step and prevent you from slipping. In the middle of the outsole, a Rock-Plate has been placed to absorb shocks from hard and sharp objects.
A small summary.
A perfect trail shoe for the beginner and for the one who wants extra comfort on easy-going workouts in the woods. Visually its also very cool, I certainly love it!
