Test: Puma Magnify Nitro 2 – The jungle drums are booming!

Big Cat Energy. A phrase associated with Puma. With the Magnify Nitro 2 Puma completes an excellent lineup with the biggest cat of them all.

The Puma Magnify Nitro 2 is a Max cushioned running shoe, an extremely hyped category of running shoes. If, on your run, you have the practice of studying other runners' footwear, you have probably noticed that there has been a significant change in the appearance of many of these. We're talking tall midsoles, soft materials, comfortable uppers, and running shoes you just want to put on again and again. Puma Magnify Nitro 2 is no exception. In recent years, Puma has worked their way into runners' consciousness, and with the Magnify Nitro 2, we can only surrender. Read the review and hear why we are so impressed by the Puma Magnify Nitro 2.

Finally a well-functioning knit upper

In recent years, Puma has made a name for themselves with a number of exciting running shoes, and especially the Velocity Nitro and Deviate Nitro have made headlines. With the Magnify Nitro 2, they now have a third powerful addition.

There is no doubt that Puma has tried to make a comfortable running shoe, it's visible in several aspects of the shoe. The upper is no exception. The Magnify Nitro 2 has a knitted upper, a material that is relatively flexible and certainly not something that has been perfected in every shoe. But in this case, it has. The reason for this is Puma's PWRTAPE technology. PWRTAPE is a reinforcement of the upper on the Magnify Nitro 2 that can be seen especially on the inside, where it provides a little extra stability, so the stretchy and adaptive knit material actually works pretty well. Maybe you have a wider foot or you need a shoe with an adaptive fit, then the Magnify Nitro 2 could be an excellent option for you.

The biggest cat in the pack

The midsole, the running shoe's engine room. This engine room has seen an impressive renovation. The midsole of the Magnify Nitro 2 consists of 100% Nitro™ foam. With 40mm of foam in the heel and 30mm in the forefoot, you get a durable max-cushioned running shoe. The trend in many new releases has been rocker geometry in the midsole, but the Magnify Nitro 2 is a bit more classic, dare I say more natural, with a 10mm heel drop. I think the Magnify Nitro 2 offers a little more responsiveness and control than the other max-cushioned running shoes don't offer to the same degree. This makes the shoe a bit more versatile, than being the running shoe that you only put on when the intensity is at its lowest.

I will try to keep the animal references to a minimum, but has the Puma of the animal kingdom perhaps installed PUMAGRIP on the outsole? You could almost be tempted to believe it. They are at least super agile and good in all sorts of terrain - and so is the Magnify Nitro 2! PUMAGRIP has gradually established itself as one of the most durable and grippy outsole materials on the market, and on the Magnify Nitro 2 you get a relatively rough one of its kind, it almost tends towards being a trail shoe. But only almost.

Buuuuut?

Is there just harmony and peace in jungle land, not quite. If you have a narrower foot, then you need to severely tighten the shoe. The upper is luckily quite flexible, as I mentioned earlier, so it is possible. But I was missing some stability across the foot, even though my feeling of the foot in the shoe was very comfortable.

Puma Magnify Nitro 2 is the next step in Puma's positive development within running shoes. The jungle drums are booming louder than ever before. The Magnify Nitro 2 is for you who are looking for a neutral running shoe, that performs well in several types of terrain, provides plenty of protection against the ground and has a flexible and adaptive upper.
