TEST: Salomon Glide Max

First they conquered the trail category. Then they expanded into the lifestyle category. Now Salomon has branched out into the road category. And they are impressing right from the get go!

For a long time, Salomon has dominated the trail category. It hasn't been possible to mention trail without mentioning Salomon too. Their shoes and gear have been used by the vast majority of self-respecting trail runners. And Salomon's Speedcross model is the best-selling trail running shoe in the world year after year.

In recent years, Salomon has steadily expanded into the lifestyle category, offering a wide range of stylish designs.

And now Salomon has slowly begun to branch out into road category. With their experience of trail and lifestyle, they have launched a range of shoes that in many ways bring together some of the elements that have made Salomon a success.

One of the shoes that Salomon has designed specifically for the road is the Salomon Glide Max.

Salomon Glide Max is a successfully designed shoe, if you ask me. Overall, the Salomon Glide Max is a very soft, lightweight and stylishly designed shoe. Salomon Glide Max is the perfect shoe for your long Saturday runs or one of your leisurely runs along the country road, where the focus is on comfort rather than speed.

Maybe you remember my colleague Lars' review of the Salomon Ultra Glide trail shoe?

You can read the entire article by Lars about Salomon Ultra Glide here: Salomon Ultra Glide here

The Salomon Ultra Glide stood out amongst the crowd, party due to its incredibly soft and comfortable qualities. This is especially thanks to Salomon's ultralight and soft Energy Surge foam. Many Salomon fans, Lars included, were very happy with the Salomon Ultra Glide. And Salomon has clearly listened to their fans and taken a lot of what worked with the Salomon Ultra Glide and transformed it into a road shoe.

Salomon Glide Max - MIDSOLE

As mentioned earlier, the midsole is made using Salomon's Energy Surge foam, which is a very soft midsole material. The softness helps of course to provide an incredible amount of comfort, but one thing I really think Salomon has suceeded at making work is the balance between softness and the feeling that the shoe is stable under my feet. At no point do you feel unsafe or unsure in terms of the stability of the shoe. On the contrary, the shoe seems very safe and stable.

Salomon Glide Max - UPPER

Salomon has decided to keep the the characteristic Salomon Sensifit design, which holds the laces in place just as they should be. The straps give the feeling that the shoe fits really snugly on your foot, as well as offers appropriate support. Sensifit can also be found on many of Solomon's popular lifestyle trainers. And they help to give the Salomon Glide Max a really cool and unique design. Even the tongue of the shoe is very thick, which has its advantages, as this allows you to lace the shoe up easily. But it can also get a little warm in the shoe if your feet tend to overheat.

Salomon Glide Max - OUTSOLE

The outsole is made of the same material that can also be found on the Salomon Ultra Glide - Contagrip. Contagrip really is a solid, high-wear and non-slip material for outsoles, and with the raised lugs placed in strategic places, you always have the feeling of having a sure footing on the ground.

Salomon Glide Max - USE:

The Salomon Glide Max is a running shoe that can be used for many things. It is certainly a running shoe I use on my leisurely runs and on my longer runs. As I said, it is very soft and comfortable, so your legs and feet are really well protected.

I also tried to take the shoe on a single interval run, where I felt I was lacking a bit of responsiveness. But from such a soft and shock-absorbing shoe, it is actually incredibly lightweight - so even though I feel I am lacking a little more "kick" in the toe-off on faster paced runs, I think the shoe works great for most running forms.

And I probably cannot hide the fact that I may have worn the shoe to work for a day or to. Since, let's face it, it's awesome!

Salomon Glide Max - CONCLUSION

Right now Salomon is a brand that seems to have a lot of success in most of their pursuits. The Salomon Glide Max is no exception. The shoe is very comfortable, soft and bouncy, making it a really good shoe for leisurely runs, whether it is a short jog or a longer run. The shoe feels light and fits really well. And it's even got a stylish deisgn!
