The king of mud has been updated and is better than ever, but has been careful not to ruin the proud tradition by not changing what shouldn't be changed.
Video
has been a familiar sight on the trail scene since 2006, a true king of mud and every other place you want great grip! Through 6 generations, has stayed true to its roots despite having 6 different designers, and there's a reason for that: Don't change what works!
It still has the amazing Contagrip® outsole, with rubber that sticks to anything. The Sensifit™ construction, an updated upper with new materials, and Quicklace™ system result in the same comfort and snug fit the Speedcross family is known for. And the EnergyCell™+ midsole provides, as always, a responsive and quick run.
So, there is a lot that hasn't changed, but when a change is made, there's definitely a reason for it. And that's exactly the case with the two major changes you find on the new Speedcross 6.
Salomon Speedcross 6 – Quicker and lighter!
The first thing that stands out when comparing Salomon Speedcross 5 & Salomon Speedcross 6 is the weight difference. This is primarily due to the lower stack height (midsole height) on Speedcross 6, with 3 mm less foam compared to Speedcross 5.
This makes Speedcross 6 a lighter shoe, but perhaps more importantly, a quicker and more stable shoe, handling direction changes better. And in the type of terrain that Salomon Speedcross 6 is designed for, those changes mean EVERYTHING!
Nothing beats a shoe you trust. If you can take sharp turns and descents without worrying about the shoe, you run faster. And the small change in the midsole makes me trust Speedcross 6 even more, making it so much easier to run.
Salomon Speedcross 6 - Trust the grip
Trust is the key word here, for the second major change made on Speedcross 6 is the outsole. And when we talk about the Speedcross legacy, we especially talk about truly great grip everywhere. At first glance at the outsole, you might not see big changes, and that's because the changes themselves are not so big. But based on thorough research, they have a huge effect on how the shoe performs.
After extensive testing, Salomon concluded that the Y-shaped lugs on the new Speedcross 6 shed more mud than any other grip they've tested. This means there's less mud sticking under your shoe, and you maintain more grip during your run.
"Don't worry, I've got you!" is what says to you every time you hit a technical part of the route, and it feels amazing!
