How I tested Saucony Peregrine 13

I have joyfully run many km in Saucony Peregrine 12, which set clear expectations for what Saucony Peregrine 13 would be like.

The Peregrine model is famous for being great for technical terrain and mud, so Saucony Peregrine 13 must also be tested in its proper element. I've run trail distances between 10 and 20 km, varying terrain from very muddy sections, technical trails  full of roots, turns, etc., and a bit on asphalt.

First impression of Saucony Peregrine 13

It's easy to get nervous when there's an update to a shoe that works very well. I can assure you that the immediate feel when putting my foot in Saucony Peregrine 13 is the same as in the 12, concerning form.

As far as I can feel, nothing has changed in terms of fit - meaning that Saucony Peregrine 13 retains Saucony's familiar good space, still with great options to tighten the shoe securely to the foot, which is crucial when running technical trail . Comfort has improved, partly due to changes in the upper.

Outsole in Saucony Peregrine 13

With 5 mm lugs, Saucony Peregrine 13 can handle most - even muddy trails.

The pattern on the outsole has changed slightly, creating more space between the lugs - this should help reduce the risk of anything sticking under the shoe. The size of the lugs also varies more in different parts of the outsole, suggesting that Saucony has fine-tuned small details for improved grip.

My experiences with the outsole are excellent so far - I've trusted the shoe fully and maintained good traction on various surfaces.

Midsole in Saucony Peregrine 13

The midsole is higher than in the 12. Furthermore, the midsole material has been adjusted to be slightly softer.

My best description of the midsole experience is "adequately comfortable." By that, I mean I haven't missed comfort when the shoe is in its element. The landing is still on the firm side, but on trails, it's comfortable enough, which is the shoe's strength, making Saucony Peregrine 13 excellent in technical terrain, requiring high stability and firmness.

I can easily run a few km on asphalt without issues, but the shoe is particularly fun to run in when you hit the trails. Compared to Saucony Peregrine 12, there's better comfort in the new Saucony Peregrine 13 when encountering firm surfaces.

Upper in Saucony Peregrine 13

The upper on Saucony Peregrine 13, like on the 12, is in a very stretch-resistant material - allowing for a snug lace without the upper giving way later in the run. The material's comfort is excellent, consisting of two layers, and I expect the same durability as Saucony Peregrine 12.

There's a noticeable difference from Saucony Peregrine 12 to Saucony Peregrine 13 in the upper. The new model is softer and more comfortable but still performs just as well on technical sections. A clear upgrade from the previous model!
