Activity Profiles
Activity profiles cover all activities you can track with your Forerunner watch. Forerunner 45 comes with the following activities:
- Run, running

With the launch of Garmin Forerunner 55, more activities are added to the list, allowing you to challenge yourself with more training forms or track an activity you lacked on your Forerunner 45. Among the new activity profiles, you find:

- Virtual Run, connect your watch with Zwift or another compatible app and run virtually on the phone or computer screen ahead of you. Useful, for example, when running on a treadmill. The watch sends pace, heart rate, and cadence to the connected app.

Garmin Forerunner 55 introduces more running-specific features to help elevate running training and performance to new heights. At the very least, you can now nerd out more with your training and its planning. The new running features include:
- Daily Suggested Workouts Lite = With Daily Suggested Workouts (Lite), you now have individual running training options. Based on your current fitness level, training load, and sleep, stress, and recovery status, Forerunner 55 offers specific workout recommendations to follow daily. The Lite version excludes Garmin’s Training Load and Training Status, both concerning how your body rebuilds and improves after training.

- Recovery Time = the function estimates how long until you’re fully recovered after your last workout.
- Race Predictor = Based on your VO2 Max and training history, Race Predictor estimates your expected finish time for distances: 5 km, 10 km, half marathon, and marathon.
- Finish time = choose a distance and see a screen with your estimated finish time.
- Cadence Alerts = set an interval for desired running cadence (number of steps per minute). Receive alerts when cadence exceeds or falls below the desired interval.
- Intervals Mode = create an interval session or choose a predefined interval session. Find the function under Activity Profiles > Run > Settings > Training
- PacePro Lite = have a more strategic run with Garmin PacePro. Create a new or existing route in Garmin Connect and specify desired pace or finish time. PacePro will calculate a pace based on the route’s stages (ascents, descents, etc.). Download the plan to your watch and start running. The Lite feature of PacePro works via GPS-based pace guidance. You cannot see a route map on the watch, as possible with some of the more advanced Garmin models.
INCREASED FOCUS ON YOUR HEALTH
But it’s not just about new activity profiles and running-specific updates. Garmin Forerunner 55 takes both your physical performance and health into account, now offering access to features previously reserved for more expensive models.
- Sleep monitoring = wear Forerunner 55 while sleeping, and you can now see your sleep statistics in the Garmin Connect app. Garmin analyzes your sleep using heart rate variations, dividing it into stages: Light sleep, Deep sleep, and REM sleep. - Intensity minutes = when your heart rate exceeds your average resting heart rate, Forerunner 55 assumes you’re doing an activity. It could be during a chosen activity (running, cycling, pilates, etc.), but also just walking to and from the supermarket. Forerunner 55 ensures all activity counts in the final tally!
- Fitness age = this feature makes the result of your activity and training more relatable. Typically your fitness level is indicated by your VO2 Max. To make your fitness score understandable, Fitness age converts your VO2 Max to an estimated age. Training and movement help keep us young. So what are you waiting for?
- Pregnancy tracking = just as Garmin Connect helps women track their menstruation and symptoms, pregnancy tracking is now introduced to Garmin Forerunner 55. With this feature, you can track specific pregnancy symptoms week by week, be reminded to drink water, track baby’s movements, and more.
- All-day respiration, shows breaths per minute.

IMPROVED BATTERY LIFE
